C-band is commonly used for several satellite services around the world. It allows for a wide area coverage and is also extremely resilient to severe weather conditions. Recently, there have been requests for access to C-band from mobile telecom providers who believe that spectrum sharing is possible. Many in the satellite space believe this could result in an increase in errors and satellite interference.
SIG’s view is that the satellite and mobile industries could successfully share C-band, but this would require significantly more collaboration in order to reach a resolution for all.
